In the early morning hours of April 15, 1912, the Titanic, a ship declared "unsinkable" by its makers, sank after sinking an iceberg. Lifeboats saved only 700 of her passengers. Forensic medical investigator Shiya Ribowsky describes the fate of the more than 1,500 others who succumbed to the icy waters of the North Atlantic.
The descriptions in the above video are very, very sad. This disaster is certainly still very fresh in our minds. I wonder if these bone chilling details is the reason why.
Interesting that you brought up the Titanic here as I just recently read a book mentioning the notable writer/ journalist W.T.Stead and the fact that he was having premonitions about the disaster and wrote stories incorporating the theme.
"Death on the Titanic
Stead boarded the Titanic for a visit to the USA to take part in a peace congress at Carnegie Hall at the request of William Howard Taft. After the ship struck the iceberg, Stead helped several women and children into the lifeboats. After all the boats had gone, Stead went into the 1st Class Smoking Room, where he was last seen sitting in a leather chair and reading a book.[7] A later sighting of Stead, by survivor Philip Mock, has him clinging to a raft with John Jacob Astor IV. "Their feet became frozen," reported Mock, "and they were compelled to release their hold. Both were drowned."[8] William Stead's body was not recovered. Stead had made two possible premonitions concerning the Titanic. On 22 March 1886, he published an article named "How the Mail Steamer Went Down in Mid-Atlantic, by a Survivor",[9] where a steamer collides with another ship, with high loss of life due to lack of lifeboats. Stead had added "This is exactly what might take place and will take place if liners are sent to sea short of boats". In 1892, Stead published a story called From the Old World to the New,[10] in which a White Star Line vessel, the Majestic, rescues survivors of another ship that collided with an iceberg." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Thomas_Stead

There is an team that is trying to get funding to research the Titanic.
Here is some info: Team to include a Catholic bishop from Louisville, Ky., a historian, and a fiction writer with relatives who perished on the ship. Matthew “Sandman” Kelley, a retired truck driver is organizing a trip out at sea as part of a group called Society of DEAD (Direct Evidence After Death).
He’s hoping that a group of 20 paranormal researchers can collect some compelling photographic negatives about 960 miles off the coast of New York, at the place where the Titanic sank in 1912.
The Titanic investigation is being planned for April of 2011. The primary focus of the investigation is going to be on collecting electronic voice phenomena, or EVP. Kelly says EVP can best be explained as the psychic version of a photographic negative.
I just watched the video and it answered questions I had had regarding what happened to those who didn't make it into the life boats. It was very interesting information. Thank you for sharing this, Bonnie.
Thank you, Irina, for sharing your information about Stead. Interesting that he had those premonitions but didn't take them seriously enough to avoid boarding the Titanic. For the life of me, I'm trying to remember something a coworker or friend recently told me about someone they knew having a premonition about something and avoiding a disaster that followed by paying attention to it. I wish I could remember the details. Oh well. The information may come to me later. I've absorbed too much tonight.
I remember hearing about swimmers like Lynne Cox that swam for a long time in frigid water. There are many people that can survive longer in cold water of around 30 degrees better than others.
Here is a video of Lynne Cox discussing one of her swims:

I also found a very cute story about Lynne Cox and how she saved a baby gray Whale that asked her for help while Lynne was practicing her swimming.
