someone catch me up to date on this. i see that there have been many changes to the whaley house and that there is bad mojo with the new caretakers, etc. is she, gone? really gone or just gone from the Whaley House?

in any case, it's a shame. when i first toured the house in the early 1990's she was totally approachable and really very nice. 1992 (i think) was the last time i visited SD and the house was closed, so i didn't do the tour. nice, nice woman. she was very matter-of-fact about my surreal experience that occured in the garden.

it saddens me to hear that the garden is neglected because that's where i met a ghost (i'm really pretty sure i did) and i always tell my daughter the story. now i won't be able to take her there and explain it as certainly as I would have if things would've remained the same.

So is June deceased?

Has the whaley mojo changed? You bet it has. If you haven't been there since '92 you will be sort of disappointed. The house doesn't look at all the same inside and it's sort of boring in there, also some ugly decorations that look sort of stone age/flintstone and I don't know whats up with that. It's just about ghost catching and now theres way to many people doing that to accomplish any good energy in there. It is ugly in the yard too and it used to be so pretty there. All the kitties are gone too. I am hoping whoever is in charge will start to try to fix the place up a little. Now it looks like it's falling apart. You sort of think with all the people in there all the time they could make enough money to keep the place up. It was never like this when June Reading kept charge of the house and I know she's died but I am surprised she's not haunting it herself for it being let go so bad. It's really sad.

I may have posted this elsewhere on this board, but as a former friend of June's I must relate this story. This happpened sometime in the mid 1980s. June and I were having lunch in Old Town, and off the cuff I asked her if she thought she would ever return to Whaley House when she passed. June had a big grin that anyone that ever met her would remember and sparkling eyes. That grin appeared and she answered me immediately as she reached for her iced tea "Nope. When I'm gone, I'm gone for good!" or words to that effect.

I have not been to the house in two years and I was disappointed in the direction the decor was taking, especially the main foyer. It not only looks fake, but it is shiny, and that increases reflection when you take a picture with a flash.

My experience has been the garden is the area with the most paranormal activity.

A visit is not in the near future for myself, but I do I love the house and have enjoyed quiet moments in the both the garden and inside.

My hope is that the history and the memory of those who lived there is preserved with dignity for many generations to enjoy.I think that has always been the core of the work done by June Reading in the past and the current society looking after it.
