Sylvan Beach amusement park, hotel featured on Ghost Hunters

Sylvan Beach (WSYR-TV) -- Sylvan Beach can now add ghosts to its list of attractions. The SciFi network featured the amusement park and restaurant hotel "The Royal" on Ghost Hunters Wednesday night.

“This Wednesday on the Ghost Hunters winter final the historic amusement park has something scarier than any ride,” said Sylvan Beach Amusement Park GM Pat Goodenow.

Scary, but harmless, Goodenow says.

"The ghosts are friendly and they're playful and they like doing playful things,” Goodenow continued.

The former owner for 31 years and the current general manager, Goodenow has worked at the amusement park since he was 17. He says even he used to be a skeptic.

“I'm a science and math person - a logical person - and I don't know how you would explain some of the things that have happened, that even I've seen happen,” he said.

He says a woman in a white gown has been spotted in the dining room of the hotel or sitting in front of a second story window. Lights that have been turned off for the night have come back on, along with candles.

Goodenow says the door to his old room often has a mind of its own.

"People make the joke, Jack's home when the door is closed and Jack's out for a walk when the door is open,” Goodenow told NewsChannel 9.

All-in-all, nothing too terrifying has ever happened, except once.

"I think the only time I was ever really ever concerned was the one time I heard steps running at me and I couldn't see anybody coming and they ran past me and I could feel something run by me,” Goodenow explained.

In the bar, glasses are known to come crashing down off the counter. One night things were slow and the bartender thought she saw a customer in the mirror. When she turned around, no one was there.

Staff members have witnessed things around the amusement park too. Like a young girl in a white dress, who disappeared seconds later.
