Paranormal series Most Haunted has been spirited away to the US where production is underway on a remake.

Target Entertainment has secured a deal with the Travel Channel that will see eight episodes produced by Antix, the Stockport-based indie behind the UK series. It is due to air the series this autumn as well as a live Most Haunted event, of which 2 x 60-minute instalments will be broadcast on 10 October from 8am to 3am.

The US version has been co-commissioned by Travel Channel and Virgin Media TV, the owner of Living which airs the UK series. Like the original show, a team of investigators will visit infamously haunted locations and capture their experiences on camera.

In addition, Travel Channel has acquired series 10 (20 x 60-minutes) of the UK show.

Ellen Lovejoy, senior vice president of sales at Target Entertainment, said: "The fact that original episodes will be produced in the US, using US locations, is really exciting. They are sure to be a hit stateside and will appeal to Living's core audience as well."
