CRYSTAL BAY, Nev. — On the 11th anniversary of Frank Sinatra’s death, about 40 people gathered to participate in a seance Thursday night at the Cal Neva’s Frank Sinatra Celebrity Showroom.

Although the seance yielded no tangible paranormal experiences, such as doors spontaneously slamming open or audible knocking on ceiling pipes as in years past, infrared cameras and electromagnetic field detectors were able to detect some paranormal activity during and after the event.

Most of the participants hoped to capture photos of ghosts or entities, often depicted by white orbs on the image, on their ordinary cameras.

“Usually you don’t know until you develop (the pictures),” said Kitty Umbraco, who has attended and documented several smaller, private seances at the resort. “Nothing really happens during the seance; it’s when they develop the pictures that weird things come out.”

Thursday’s seance was the first such event to be open to the public, said Cal Neva Tour Director Carl Buehler.
