I can honestly say that me and 5 others saw the lady. Back in '87, we had heard this story about a lady walking around on Proctor Valley Road asking for help. We thought, "Ok, it's 3am in the morning. Let's drive out there."

As we were coming around a bend, we see this blue thing on the side of the road. It was this lady that was in a fetal position. We slowed down to get a better glimpse of this "blue thing". As the headlights shined on this thing, it stood up. It turned out to be some lady in a bluish gown of some kind. She did look like she was glowing in a faint manner (or it could've been the high beams). She started waving her hands (like she was asking for help). I also remember her mouth moving, as if she was talking, but no words were coming out.

Obviously, we all freaked out and sped out of there as fast as we can. A buddy of mine looked back and said, "I don't see her anymore."

All I got to say is that it's definitely a night that I will always remember.

I find the story interesting. This certainly sounds like something from the urban legend category. Could you be specific as to where this happened? I was born and raised in San Diego years ago, in those days Proctor Valley was just that, a valley and the roads through there were all dirt and as I beleive they still are, very bumpy.

Were you actually on Proctor Valley Road? If so, what milemarker? If you don't recall that, what is there now?

I would really like to track this down a bit more. Looking at some of the 'historical evidence' there appears to be a few problems. Most notably, those purportedly at the heart of the various legends cannot be identified with any certainty. This always bothers me. Yet it might be interesting to investigate a bit further.

Phenom,
Yes, we were actually on Proctor Valley Rd. We entered in from the San Miguel/Proctor Valley intersection. I want to say that it was probably at around the 7th mile mark (we were coming around from a bend and that's when we saw her).

Yeah, back in 1987, there was nothing there. Just a dirt road and completely pitch black out there since there were no lights out there.

After that incident, about 2 months afterwards, there were many times I was compelled to go back out there but ended up cheesing out.

A friend and I did eventually go back out there about 2-3 years ago, entering in from the same route (via San Miguel/Proctor Valley), I was sad to see that there's housing developments out there now. But in terms of the very spot where we saw her, I've yet to actually go out there.

There seems to be a creature similar to this in the Questhaven area. My friends call it "The Red Ape Thing"

A few of us have seen it, and you can hear it. It will just romp anywhere it wants, you can hear it in the foresty area down the hill more towards the harmony grove area.

It's gotten uncomfortably close to a few of us.

One time we think it may have even been injured, as it was romping around knocking everything around making a ruckus. It almost knocked over a small tree.

It has thick, bristly red fur, almost a brownish-deep-red.

It looks like a VERY bulky man, and I could see how it could be called bison or buffalo-like as that one man said.

I haven't tried getting a picture, I don't want the thing to get scared and kill me.

Just as a side note: if you're ever in that area, forget the ghosts, this thing is strong, and VERY curious, it is attracted to noise. We have lured it twenty feet from us, then we realized how BIG it was and got the hell out of there.

BE CAREFUL.

Last night I went with My boyfriend his sister and two of her friends to proctor valley road. About 15 minutes down the road we see a girl kneeling over in a blue night gown that looked a lot like me (pal long black hair thin). I couldnt believe my eyes then suddenly my boyfriends sister started busting out in tears. I could not sleep all night.

I don't think the "monster" is there now--that area is pretty much taken over by Eastlake, so unless you see the old PVM living in a tract home, cruising the 125 Toll Road, shopping at the Albertson's, golfing the Auld Course, or sipping a latte at the Starbuck's, he's probably moved on elsewhere!

The only "red lights" I've seen at the top of Mt. Miguel are the flashing red lights on the TV/radio antennas to alert air traffic that there is a mountain there.

There are still about 2 miles of unpaved road between Chula Vista and Jamul, so whoever made the comment about how the Proctor Valley Monster could only be seen in a tract home or shopping at Albertsons is off the mark. The area is pretty much like it was back in 1987. I'm not saying I believe in any of this stuff, but it's still a creepy place at night, much like it was back then.

Okay...well i went to proctor valley with four other friends and it was around maybe 10 around 11 at night. When we got on this unpaved road thats when my friend the driver started telling us the story...i got a little freaked out but was hoping to actually see something...my friend in the passengers seat started to also freak out but started to scream becuase the driver was all turning off the beams and stuff....but the driver said not to make any noise or the "lady" will hear you...(or something like that), so she stopped..but still my friend got scared and started to scream becuase the driver rolled down the windows...then...around about...mile 3...nothing happend...then around mile 4 we saw this big tree just over the road...and i said" OMG!!! i think we going to see her here(most likely)..but no nothing happend..then on our last mile..it was the river...had fog coming up but not all that scary..so then we were all getting freaked because they thought they saw lights following us..but really there was nothing there..then we crossed the river..and again nothing happened...so then we had finally got out of there with out seeing any "blue light...lights follwing us..or a lady wearing blue." so it was really a dissappointment...

So i've always heard Proctor Valley was haunted, and stories like: if you turn your car off, and your lights off you will see a ghost in a dress. Back in 2003 me and 3 of my guy friends went to proctor valley to "get scared" ... we went the old 94 way that turns and connects to proctor valley road. I forgot what time we all went out, but not even a mile into driving on the road I turned my car, and turned off my lights.. to see if we all can see anything, nothing happend. We all were dissapointed so as i went to start my car IT WOULDN'T START, I started screaming and my guy friends were freaking out too, my friend tried to start it and it wouldn't start.. eventually after 5min my car started up and we all bounced out of that place. I told my co-worker the next day whom lives in Jamul and she said there's many sightings of that car "thing" that happens out there. Also, my friend was on the old 94 out in Jamul, his car broke down, but he said he said a somebody on the side of the road across from him that disappered, he said it was a blue-ish figure. this was posted by ghost hunter 1: 3. I lived right on proctor valley on shadow valley road in jamul right before proctor turns to a dirt road. Okay i lived there from 5 years old to 18 and yes it's a creepy valley. I'm 27 now. I've seen huge dogs gone missing and we find a pile of fur on the trail! Yes prob just coyotes or a mountain lion.

okay okay here's why im posting! one time we went like 2 miles on dirt proctor valley road heading south towards eastlake around 10pm i took a side trail off and we started heading northwest over this little hill and long story short we got lost and almost got stuck. the trail got really bad! We ran into a group of people like 4-5 of them; they were painted completely blue!! one of the guys came up to the car like 10 feet from my driver window which was down...i asked something about how to get back to proctor main and he didnt have much to say but i asked if he wanted to blaze some herb and he was up for it but then i got a spooky feeling and basically started driving again doing a 360 and heading away from them. But the guy started chasing me! He seemed out of it...kinda of zombie 'ish' it wasn't a monster probably just a tweeker or drunk but to this day my friend and i still talk about it.

one time my friend's mom rolled her suv on our way to school in bonita.we took that dirt road every day. We've had to turn around because the texas long horn cows congregated in the road...

or when it was rainy and there was too much water going over the road to get across...

lot of people wreck their trucks out there next to the big white creepy shed i lived across from.

Jamul/Dulzura is so weird because there are nice estates and good families out there but on the other hand there are all these tweeker houses with all these cats and dogs and. Did you guys know there is a smaller version of burning man in dulzura every year and supposedly it goes off.

My family and I love this ghost stuff. We've lived out in Bonita for a few years now but never heard about the Proctor Valley Road story until after our little experience.

Back in 2010, my mum and I started driving around aimlessly since we were a little new to the area. We wound up going down Proctor Valley Road. As we hit the dirt road, we started talking about how this place is really spooky and wonder if it is haunted or has any creepy stories. This was not that late. Probably around 9 or 10pm.

Now, we are driving in a mini van, not a jeep or a truck, so you have to drive super duper slow without screwing up the suspension on the car. So we're going 5mph or something.

Then, we hear this really really strange noise. It sounds as if it overtakes us. You know that sound of a single car passing by in the distance in absolute silence? That sort of swooshing noise in the wind? Kind of difficult to explain. That noise, but amplified, emerges from the back of the mini van and up to the passenger door (my side) and shoots up.
We could feel this weird sort of presence that puts goose bumps on my body. Even now as I am writing this gives me the chills...

We freaked out and started ranting and raving about the experience to my friend who we picked up later on that night. It felt like a car had passed our car on that little tiny dirt road, but there was nothing there. We didn't see anything pass by, and no car passed somewhere else in the distance. We both know what we felt. Something unexplainable but very, very real, I can assure you.

About a month down the line, my friend mentioned this Proctor Valley Road and all of the stories and fables that go with it, including the one about the ghost car. This obviously caused us to freak out.

We've visited the road a couple of times since then and have experience nothing.
Two nights ago, my guy friend drove me, my sister and my mother down 5 miles into Proctor Valley Road. Not the full distance because gas is way to freaking expensive for a little ghost adventure.

We drove with the lights off, and I hung out the window to look for big foot or whatever, and we stopped and got out once or twice and wandered into the thicket.

We talked about some of the stories and how people might dress up as the woman in blue or the little girl in white (which is featured on a youtube video. Actually kinda scary...real or not). We rationalized the possibility of bored, brave souls who do hoaxes on the road late at night. This is a busy, popular Friday night, which is why we saw four different cars within an hour.

We decided screw it, let's mess with some folks. We noticed headlights coming up a quarter of a mile up the road, so we pulled the car to the side of the road as if we were broke down, turned off the engine and ducked down in the seats. The car passed by very, very slowly, the passengers probably trying to peek inside. Their car is low, and it is pitch black, so they couldn't see us. They drove by about ten yards, stopped, waited a minute, and then reversed. I am sure they were shitting their pants. They pulled up by the car, and we could hear them murmuring all sorts of things. I could hear young female voices in the back seats squeaking and stuff.
I counted to three and we leapt up and screamed.
let's just say the reaction was priceless. Lots and lots of laughs for something so scary. They took the joke quite well, and we parted a little while later.

We tried pranking two other cars that passed by, but these cars literally sped right by us, probably terrified at the thought of someone trying to pop out and kill them. We screamed out the windows after they left, which actually coaxed them into driving back to our from over 100 yards away. They drove past, stopped for a minute, pulled a U-ey and drove past us without stopping. AGAIN.

Is it haunted? Maybe. A little strange with all of the government signs and fenced up areas, though...
If you live in SD, you have to visit at least once.
PS, don't go on Halloween. We will scare you...

Last week a couple of friends and I went to proctor valley during 3:00 AM (witching hour) we've been going here recently around this time to try and find something suspicious. When we were driving through we see lights behind us so we parked and turned off the car so it could pass us, all we see is just light in the distance looked like it was parked waiting for us. So we were talking in the car just relaxing waiting for it to pass when my friend and I look out the window and we see this huge shadowy figure walking towards the car, we told my friend to leave because we saw something. When we driving trying to get away from it his headlights showed that it was a 7ft hairy person taking long strides my friend then yelled out the window saying "F*** you" when he says that you can hear "AHHH" in the distance here's the link to the video it's just pretty much sound I still can't believe what we saw we'll be going back soon in the future http://youtu.be/x0VP16VYZi0
