That looks very awesome and futuristic great find and I could not agree more and its really good to see green free solar power being brought forward. Also it show what great stuff we can create as humans and I totally agree with the message he says at the end. ^_^ ---------- Mike

Okay. Just watched this, and I like it! Great concept. Love the idea of moving away from asphalt and concrete (which has to be paved, repaved, and apparently relies on fossil fuels), and this new way of thinking about roads ties into the "TED" video about new ways of thinking. We take asphalt and concrete roads for granted. Maybe it's time to try something new and innovative.
I think one of the key questions regarding this type of technology and change in our road system will be cost versus benefits. What will it cost to implement this type of new road system throughout the United States? What will it cost to maintain it? How will natural disasters such as earth quakes affect it? If the sun and solar power are going to be the main source of energy, then that part of the cost question is answered. I'm sure solar energy would be stored in the glass somehow for night time use.
Many years ago, when I was in high school, I used to think about how neat it would be to have streets and roads made of steel. Later, once I started driving and using the roads, I realized that steel would get very, very hot in the summer and would be too slick in rainy weather. Concrete and asphalt also have a certain texture that tires use for traction, I believe.
I think steel would hold up better in an earth quake than concrete. I was surprised to learn from this video that glass could be almost as strong as steel. That's amazing.
I didn't want to start a new thread topic for this, so I hope it's okay to post it here, Bonnie. The theme is similar in terms of new technology and innovative ways of thinking or problem solving.
I found this on YouTube, started watching it and found it fascinating.
